Reading the Bible

Why should I read the Bible?

The Bible is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in all of literature. Across generations, languages, and cultures, no other book has matched its influence, depth, or beauty.

Within its pages, you will find the majestic opening of Genesis and the profound introduction to John’s Gospel, the heartfelt poetry of the Psalms, the passionate words of the prophets, the compelling account of Jesus’ life and ministry, and the rich, symbolic visions of Revelation. Together, these make the Bible truly unique.

Yet the Bible is more than a remarkable book. It is not only literature, it is a living message. The Bible claims to be the Word of God, speaking truth, hope, and guidance into our lives today. Once you start to read it, this becomes more and more evident.

Our aim is simple: to let the Bible speak for itself. Everything we believe is shaped by its message, and we invite you to explore it for yourself.

7 tips for reading the Bible

Here are some simple, practical tips to help you start reading the Bible:

1. Choose a modern version

Choose a Bible version that’s clear and easy to read. It can make understanding the message much simpler. Perhaps try the New Living Translation (NLT) or English Standard Version (ESV) – there are lots of others to choose from, so find one that works for you.

2. Pick an easy place to begin

Some parts of the Bible are easier to follow than others. Many people find the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) a great starting point because they focus on the life and teaching of Jesus.

3. Start small

Don’t feel like you have to read lots all at once. A few verses or a short chapter is enough to get started.

4. Take your time

It’s not a race. Pause and think about what you’ve read. Ask yourself what it teaches about God, people, or how to live today.

5. Ask questions

If something doesn’t make sense, that’s okay. Wonder about it, make notes, or chat with someone else – it’s part of the learning. Feel free to message us with any questions.

6. Pray before and after

A short prayer asking God to help you understand can make a big difference and keep your reading focused.

7. Make it a habit

Try to read a little each day, even just for a few minutes. Regular reading helps build familiarity and confidence.
