February 2010 Editorial

Title – LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

As Valentine’s Day comes around again the month of February is often associated with love; particularly finding it and nurturing it.  The challenge, however, is to carry those positive thoughts and actions through the rest of the year.

Love is a central theme throughout the Bible. This is not a mushy sentimental love often portrayed to us in Valentine’s cards, books and films, but something much more reliable and rewarding.  The Bible tells us continually that God loves ‘his people’ (those who love and respect him), in fact so much so he was willing to let Jesus, his one and only son, sacrifice himself for us on the cross; surely no love is more devoted than this? With this kind of devotion, care and mercy being shown towards us, perhaps the least we can do is take a little time to find out about God and get to know Him. This is surprisingly simple with so much information is available to us in the Bible – we just need to start reading it.

So how can we put a little love into the air around us throughout the year? Trying to following Jesus’ example will help.  For instance, look for the positive in others (admittedly easier with some than others, but rise to the challenge!); show respect for others; treat people we meet the way we would wish them to treat us; show a little extra care for those worse off than ourselves. The rewards can be great – more positive, happier days for you and those around you and, more importantly, a better understanding of God’s love for us.

So go on, put a little love in the air around you – allow God and his Son into your life and experience the amazing love of God.
